Nestled between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean, Girona is a gateway to some of Spain’s most captivating waterways. The region’s blend of medieval charm, sunlit coasts, and winding rivers creates an ideal setting for boat tours, inviting travellers to experience the Costa Brava from a fresh perspective. From the historic city centre, where the Onyar River reflects colourful facades, to the wild, rocky inlets of Cap de Creus and the serene bays near L’Estartit, Girona’s landscapes reveal themselves differently from the water. The interplay of ancient stone, pine forests, and turquoise sea forms a backdrop that is both timeless and ever-changing, making every boat excursion here a journey through light, history, and nature.

Embarking on a boat tour in Girona is an immersive experience that shifts with the route you choose. Along the Costa Brava, boats glide past dramatic cliffs, hidden coves, and sandy beaches, with the salty air carrying the scent of pine and seaweed. Some tours trace the coastline from Palamós to Cadaqués, pausing for swims in crystalline waters or snorkelling near the Medes Islands’ marine reserve, where schools of fish flicker beneath the surface. Others follow the Ter River inland, offering a quieter perspective as reeds rustle and herons take flight. Whether you opt for a leisurely sunset cruise, a family-friendly outing, or a more adventurous speedboat ride, the contrasts between bustling harbours and secluded spots create a rhythm of excitement and tranquillity. Most excursions last from one to several hours, allowing time to soak in the Mediterranean sun, the play of light on the waves, and the distant calls of seabirds.

Local guides in Girona bring a wealth of maritime knowledge and a deep respect for the region’s natural heritage. These experienced professionals ensure every boat tour is both safe and enriching, providing high-quality life jackets, navigation equipment, and thorough safety briefings before departure. Many guides are multilingual and passionate about sharing stories of the coastline, from ancient fishing traditions to the geology of the Cap de Creus. Accessibility is a priority, with most tours welcoming beginners and families, though certain routes with open sea crossings or longer durations may require a reasonable level of fitness. Girona’s outdoor culture values both adventure and care for the environment, reflected in the professionalism and hospitality of its boating community.

The Mediterranean climate makes Girona an inviting destination for boat tours from spring through autumn, with warm temperatures and gentle breezes enhancing the experience. While many excursions are designed for beginners and those seeking relaxation, some itineraries—such as longer coastal journeys or trips involving snorkelling—are best suited to participants with good physical condition. Families, couples, groups of friends, and solo explorers will all find options tailored to their interests and abilities, making boat tours in Girona accessible yet rewarding for a wide range of adventurers.

It was a very nice experience! You get to places you don't get to easily and because of the combination of peace and nature and exercise it was a lot of fun to do.
A lot of fun and adrenaline going down with ropes and water slides.

We wanted our two sons to experience canyoning for the first time. We had a great day, thanks to our friendly and very capable guide David. The canyon was not to long but included abseiling, waterfalls and a couple of jumps.
