Get Wet! Get Wild! Austria’s most infamous river rafting adventure awaits…

Take your chances on one of Europe’s most infamous rivers with this whitewater rafting excursion on the Ötztaler Ache river in Tyrol! A section of the infamous Inn, be prepared for belly-flop rapids, giant waves and natural slides on this paddle challenge in the heart of the Ötztal Alps.

Location
Ötztaler Ache is a tributary of the Inn river that runs 9 kilometres southeast of Imst. Situated in an alpine valley in the western Austrian state of Tyrol known for its ski areas and glacier, the rafting section of the river is considered a +IV river that runs into neighbouring Stuiben Falls.

Activity
Meet your river guide at the activity base in Sautens/Ötztal for this river rafting excursion on the Ötztaler Ache. Suited to confident swimmers and groups of adults only, this 3-hour whitewater adventure travels on an IV –V section of the river renowned for its fast currents, high rollers, and waves that demand intense paddling from the whole team. Starting with a quick safety briefing and kit breakdown from your in-boat guide, you will start off with some simple commands and paddle techniques before you reach your first rapids. During the next few hours, you will work as a team to dodge obstructions, navigate rapids and avoid strong eddies – be prepared to get wet or even take a swim, it’ll take all your skill not to fall in! After you reach the end of the rapid run, you will return to the camp where you can change and take a hot shower.

Conditions
Restricted to certain months of the year due to the powerful nature of this tributary of the Inn, rafting runs from May to October on a section considered IV – V. Suitable for confident swimmers and adults only, please refer to the river grading below.
Class IV: Intense, powerful but predictable rapids requiring precise boat handling in turbulent water.
Class V: Extremely long, obstructed, or very violent rapids. Drops may contain large, unavoidable waves and holes or steep, congested chutes with complex, demanding routes.
