The Rio de Frades canyon is located in Serra da Freita, a mountain range in northern Portugal, situated an hour away from Porto. It has two sections: a lower part & an upper part, and the one you take during your private canyoning excursion down the Rio de Frades will be decided depending on your level of experience since the tour will be completely adapted to you.

The lower part, which tends to result in a more beginner-level canyoning excursion down the Rio de Frades, has two abseils, of 7 and 13 meters each, and jumps that vary between 2 and up to 10 meters high!
As for the upper part, it tends to be a more challenging experience; you’ll abseil down a 70-meter rock, jump off heights that go from 4 and up to 11 meters, and swim in natural water pools!

We went canyoning with 9 “mid-fourty canyoning dummies” and we had a more adventurous day full of fun and adventure than any of us expected. Most of us even did the 12 meter high jump of a cliff!

did not expect it to be so adventurous! We had very good guides and were jumping into the river from up to 10m. Also the abseil part was well explained an save! You must be able to swim and be at least a little bit sporty.

We were a group of 4 including our guide. Our guide was nice, funny and knew what he was doing. He explained everything very well and made sure we felt save and comfortable. The canyon looks beautiful and the water we went through is crystal clear. The jumps from 6/10/12 meters into the water were the highlight of the tour in my opinion (Sidenote: if you don't want to jump, it is also possible to lower down on a rope). All in all a great day!
