Location
Fischbach Gorge is one of Austria’s most technically demanding canyons. Reserved for experienced mountaineers, its most iconic features are the 300m waterfalls and whitewater rapids. The activity base is situated 25km (30 mins) outside of Salzburg city centre in Golling. Easily and conveniently reached both by car and by public transport, the nearest train station is Golling- Abtenau Station.
Activity
Meet your instructor at the activity base in Golling for this canyoning excursion to Fischbach Gorge. A full day adventure for anyone with previous abseiling or mountaineering experience, Fischbach is not suitable for anyone who has never been canyoning before. Unlike other canyons in Austria, the day is defined by challenging and dramatic abseils. Starting with a 40-minute climb to the highest part of the canyon, you will be given a quick safety briefing and kit check before you abseil 30m down a fast-flowing waterfall! Just a taster of what’s to come, during the next few hours you’ll be required to slide, jump and rappel down the ravine – experiencing ‘The Gun Barrel’ a whitewater slide that propels you down the gorge! Once you reach the end, you will return to the activity base where your adventure will end.
Conditions
Fischbach Gorge is considered a challenging activity reserved for participants with technical rope skills and previous canyoning experience. Total duration in the canyon ranges from 5-6 hours with a 40-minute climb – there are no opt-out options for jumps and slides.
