Canyoning in São Miguel in the Lombadas canyon, Azores

• You’ll meet your instructor at the designated location near Lombadas Valley.
• After a short safety briefing and equipment check, you’ll follow the guide in your own vehicle to the canyon entrance, approximately a 20-minute drive away.
• The adventure starts with a short walk directly into the river stream.
• You’ll begin with a warm-up jump of around 1.5 metres (optional), or up to 4 metres depending on water level.
• Continue with a natural rockslide into a pool.
• First waterfall descent: 6-metre rappel.
• Second waterfall descent: another 6-metre rappel.
• Highlight of the experience: a 45-metre rappel down the main waterfall, known as “the cathedral”, framed by vibrant green and iron-orange cliffs.
• At the base, you’ll find natural pools with warm, iron-rich water.
• Throughout the route, enjoy lush vegetation, volcanic rock formations, and even a fresh mountain spring you can drink from.
• The canyoning route ends with a scenic uphill hike of around 30 minutes through the forest.
• You’ll return to your vehicle at the endpoint.
• The guides will send your photos and videos via WhatsApp or email after the activity.

Total time on site: approximately 3 hours.

All participants must be confortable in the water to take part in this activity.

Being in good physical condition is required to take part in this activity.

You must not have any medical contraindications to take part in this activity. Please inform your instructor of any medical conditions when booking.

The minimum height for this activity is: 140 cm.

The minimum weight for this activity is: 20 kg.

The maximum weight for this activity is: 120 kg.

All children must be accompanied by an adult. Written parental authorisation is required for minors (15+) to participate in this activity without an accompanying adult.

This activity is not recommended for pregnant or disabled people.

Pets are not permitted to join in this activity.

Water temperature ranges from 9–10°C in winter to 13–14°C in summer.
