Bee watching wildlife experience in São Miguel, Azores

• You arrive at the Margaridas Apiary, located in the peaceful countryside of São Miguel island in the Azores.
• You are welcomed by your guide, a local biologist, and receive a short introduction to bee biology, safety guidelines, and the unique biodiversity of this Azorean wildlife experience
• You suit up with professional beekeeping gear, including a full suit, gloves, and ankle protection
• You walk through the rewilded land, surrounded by native and melliferous plants, and reach the apiary where the bee hives are located
• At the hives, you observe the fascinating world of bees in action and learn how the colony is structured, how the bees communicate, and what roles they play throughout their lives
• With expert guidance, you identify worker bees, drones, and if lucky, spot the queen bee inside the hive
• If at any point you feel uncomfortable, you're free to step back to a safe distance or return to the briefing area
• After the observation, you return to the main area for a tasting session of different raw honeys made by Azorean bees, each reflecting the island’s rich flora
• The wildlife experience concludes, leaving you with a deeper connection to the natural heritage of São Miguel and the Azores

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Avoid wearing perfumes, creams or scented products on the day of the activity.

Long trousers, a long-sleeved shirt, and fully enclosed shoes with ankle socks are required.

This activity is not recommended for pregnant or disabled people.

This activity takes place entirely outdoors with no toilet or covered infrastructure.
