Surrounded by the impressive Valley of the Ten Peaks and its peaks over 3,000 metres high, Moraine Lake, like Lake Louise, is a must-see natural site in Banff National Park. However, since it has been inaccessible to private vehicles since 2023, it is now only accessible by shuttle bus, and only during the day. So to avoid the crowds that flock to its shores during daytime, why not join this guided excursion to Moraine Lake at sunset? You will be able to enjoy not only the calm and sumptuous colours of the surrounding landscape, but also the night sky that follows, devoid of all light pollution and making stargazing a breeze.
Departing from Banff or Canmore, depending on your accommodation, this guided minibus tour of sunset and stargazing at Moraine Lake offers a memorable getaway to one of Alberta's most photographed spots. But before you get there, you will stop off at Morant's Curve, an exceptional viewpoint of the surrounding peaks (Mount Aberdeen, Mount Fairview, etc.) against the backdrop of the Bow River. It is sure to take your breath away! After this great foretaste of what's to come, you will set off again for Moraine Lake, where you will stay for around 3 hours. On the programme: a short guided walking tour of the lake (easy trail, with very little ascent), the long-awaited spectacle of the sunset from the Rockpiles viewpoint, and finally observation of the starry sky, with the help of a computerised/digital telescope and binoculars.
It goes without saying that this guided sunset and stargazing tour to Moraine Lake is one of the most magical in Banff National Park, as this superb lake, surrounded by the Valley of the Ten Peaks, offers breathtaking panoramic views in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. Between the beauty of the scenery and your guide's passion for this place and the stars, you will spend timeless moments, rich in discoveries, thanks to the knowledge your guide will share with you throughout the adventure. And then, who knows? If you are lucky, you might even see the Northern Lights in this starry sky!
