Practical information
Explore the Scandola Nature Reserve and the village of Girolata on an unforgettable boat trip from Porto, in Corse-du-Sud! From this charming hamlet of Ota, north of Piana, you'll embark on a boat trip to the legendary Scandola Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the remote village of Girolata. An authentic maritime adventure awaits you, between volcanic cliffs, wild coves and exceptional biodiversity.
Aboard a 10-metre semi-rigid, the Capelli Tempest 900, you will sail in a small group of no more than 12 passengers in the waters of the Gulf of Porto, up close to the basaltic organs, secret caves and spectacular faults of the Bay of Elbo. Your passionate and experienced captain will show you this wild sanctuary that is only accessible by sea, sharing with you his knowledge of the geology, local history and marine fauna. Sailing in the Reserve is at a slow pace, around 10 km/h, to preserve this unique ecosystem and provide the best conditions for observing ospreys, Audouin's gulls and, for the lucky ones, dolphins in their natural habitat. Certain caves will remain inaccessible during the nesting period, and no swimming is allowed in the Reserve to preserve its tranquillity.
After passing through the village of Girolata, a typical little hamlet only accessible by sea, you'll enjoy a relaxing swim at the wild Tuara beach, an unspoilt natural site in the heart of the gulf. The excursion lasts around 2 hours 15 minutes and covers a distance of 45 kilometres, in a friendly, environmentally-friendly atmosphere.
There are three departures to suit you: in the morning at 8.30am, to take advantage of a calmer sea and maximise your chances of spotting dolphins, while avoiding the heat of peak hours; at 1pm, ideal if you have a bit of driving to do before arriving in Porto; and finally at 4.45pm, to savour the golden light at the end of the day on the cliffs and share a drink on the way back, in the gentle atmosphere of the sunset.
With Le Goéland, experts in sea excursions on the west coast of Corsica, treat yourself to an exceptional maritime adventure in the heart of a natural Corsican treasure. Just twelve explorers per trip will have the chance to experience this timeless interlude, suspended between sky, sea and volcanoes.
