Explore the calm waters of Lake Arenal on a guided kayaking excursion from El Fósforo!
If you are visiting the Arenal Volcano National Park, this excursion is the perfect way to experience Lake Arenal and its ecosystem from a different perspective, away from the crowds.
Starting from the village of El Fósforo, you will paddle across Costa Rica’s largest lake, which offers unobstructed views of the Arenal Volcano. It is an accessible trip for all levels, focusing on nature observation and the pleasure of paddling through a wild, preserved landscape.
The team will pick you up from your hotel (or you can arrive at the meeting point on your own) and head to our operations center on the lakeshore. After receiving your gear, you’ll attend a briefing on paddling techniques. Once on the water for your 2-hour excursion, you will explore various bays where it is common to spot bird species like Kingfishers, Great Blue Herons, and Anhingas, as well as howler monkeys in the surrounding trees.
Throughout the journey, you will be accompanied by a bilingual naturalist guide. They will share historical information about the lake and help you spot local wildlife while ensuring your safety. The self-bailing kayaks are stable and designed to drain water automatically, allowing you to focus on your surroundings. Once the paddling is complete, you’ll return to the base to enjoy a well-deserved snack of fresh seasonal fruits.
This is a straightforward and relaxing way to combine light exercise with an appreciation for the local environment. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of the ecosystem after a quiet morning or afternoon at the foot of the volcano.
