Kayaking Excursion on the Mrežnica River and Waterfalls from Slunj

The adventure starts in Slunj, where you’ll meet your experienced kayaking instructor 30 minutes before departure. After a quick briefing on the itinerary, you’ll receive all your gear, including a wetsuit, helmet, life jacket, neoprene shoes, and waterproof jacket. A 20-minute shuttle ride (included in the price) takes you to the departure point in Primišlje, located in the most scenic part of the Mrežnica River.

Once you arrive at the river, you’ll suit up, safely store your belongings in waterproof barrels, and receive a safety talk along with a quick introduction to kayaking and paddling techniques. You’ll then hop into a stable inflatable GUMOTEX K2 kayak, perfect for two adults and one child, and head off to explore 5 kilometers of the Mrežnica’s upper course.

This part of the river is calm, with natural pools, shallow sections, and crystal-clear emerald water that’s ideal for swimming and relaxing. You’ll cross more than ten waterfalls during your 2 to 3-hour kayaking tour, all easily navigable by boat except for the impressive 8-meter-high Milkovića waterfall. Here, adrenaline lovers can choose to jump from the top, while others can safely walk around it.

The kayaking experience offers an exciting balance between thrilling rapids and calm scenic sections, making it a great option for families, couples, and groups. Along the way, you’ll enjoy refreshing swims and breaks in magical natural surroundings. The trip ends near the Mrežnica bridge, at a charming riverside camp where you will transfer back to the meeting point. For those who have choosen the lunch option, enjoy a delicious meal with vegetarian options and dessert.

During the summer (June to September), the river temperature ranges from 18°C to 25°C, while in spring (April to June) it stays around 14°C to 20°C. In autumn (September to October), the water remains pleasant at 17°C to 22°C. At the end of the route, you’ll paddle over the river’s spring, a spot that’s always a few degrees cooler and offers a truly refreshing finale to your kayaking tour.

This Mrežnica River kayaking excursion is accessible to everyone, including non-swimmers. You’ll be fully equipped, guided by professionals, and supported by a life jacket at all times. It’s even a great opportunity to get comfortable in the water, thanks to the river’s shallow, calm pools.

Please bring a swimsuit or shorts, a t-shirt, towel, and dry clothes to change into after the activity – you will get wet, and that’s part of the fun! Your guides will do their best to keep you in the kayak, but if you fall in, don’t worry: the water is calm after the rapids and your instructors will assist you immediately. Most participants actually find this part of the adventure very enjoyable!

Free parking is available at the meeting point in Slunj. With several certified instructors on-site, everything is designed to give you a safe, exciting, and memorable kayaking trip on the Mrežnica River. You will also have access to toilets at the base and be able to leave your belongings in a safe.
