Canoe-Kayak excursion on the Zrmanja River from Kaštel Žegarski

Discover the beauty of southern Croatia on a canoe-kayak excursion along the Zrmanja River, starting from Kaštel Žegarski. Your canoe-kayak tour on the Zrmanja River begins at the meeting point, where you’ll meet your guide and gear up for the day. After a full safety briefing and orientation, you’ll launch into your kayak or canoe and begin paddling the 12-kilometer route. The pace of the descent is adjusted to the group's level, allowing you to enjoy both the class II whitewater rapids and one thrilling class III section at a comfortable rhythm.

Midway through the Zrmanja kayaking route, a 10-meter-high waterfall offers a dramatic pause. You’ll walk around it on foot while taking in the power of the falls up close. Closer to the end of the course, another 3-meter drop is navigated in turns: only one person is allowed to descend in their boat at a time, while the rest of the group walks around with the guide.

Throughout the kayaking experience, you’ll be surrounded by the impressive Zrmanja Canyon and its unspoiled nature. The water starts at a cool 15°C and gradually warms to about 22°C near the finish, thanks to fewer springs downstream. Participants are welcome to bring a picnic, which can be stored in the waterproof barrels provided in each boat. Swimming spots are scattered along the route, ideal for cooling off, swimming and taking in the views.

The full Zrmanja River canoe-kayak activity takes around 4 to 5 hours. In the spring months of May and June, when water levels are higher, the same route may be done with larger rafting boats (6 to 8 people per raft) for safety reasons. During the summer, when water levels are lower, two-person inflatable kayaks are used, and a maximum of 15 participants is assigned per guide to ensure safety and a quality experience.

Toilets are available at the start and finish, and there is free parking at the base. Participants can leave valuables locked in their cars or in the black boxes provided at the start, which will be safely transported to the endpoint. If preferred, personal items can be brought on the tour using the dry barrels included with each kayak.
