Embark on a wonderful experience in the breathtaking landscapes of Finnish Lapland with only one goal: to find the aurora borealis, with this Northern Lights hunt and photography tour from Levi! The Northern Lights, or aurora borealis, are a natural phenomenon that occurs with the interaction between the Earth's atmosphere and the sun's particles, resulting in what looks like dancing lights in the night sky. Generally, this phenomenon is only visible in what's known as the "Aurora Oval", which intersects almost perfectly with the Arctic Circle. Levi, located in the northernmost region of Finland, known as Finnish Lapland, is within both the Arctic Circle and the Aurora Oval, which makes it the perfect place to observe the Northern Lights, especially as you leave any light pollution behind and truly immerse yourself in the Arctic wilderness in this part of the world.
On the day of your Northern Lights hunt from Levi, your Juki Tours instructor will contact you by email at around 13 h (1 pm) to confirm the starting time of the experience, which varies between 18 h and 20 h (6 pm and 8 pm). At the time you have agreed upon, they will pick you up at your accommodations around Levi village, or you can meet them at Levi's tourist information office. You'll board the comfortable van and meet the expert who will drive you around all night. They'll tell you the approximate itinerary for the night, which will be based on real-time aurora forecasts, and you'll set off!
This incredible experience has an almost unlimited driving time, which means that you might only need to drive 3 hours outside of Levi to find the Northern Lights, but you could also drive up to 9 or 10 hours, and into the Finnish or Norwegian borders, searching for the best view of the aurora (don't forget to bring your passport!). It all depends on the weather conditions of the night and the aurora forecast. Throughout the night, your instructor will take photos of you under the Northern Lights with a professional-quality camera, which they will send to you in digital format the day after the excursion.
Keep in mind that the temperature in the Arctic can vary between 5 and -30 degrees Celsius (41 to -22 Fahrenheit), which means that you'll need to be ready for the cold. You should bring thermal or wool underlayers, wool or fleece middle layers, and a windproof and waterproof jacket and pants to wear over your clothes and avoid getting wet or being too cold. You should also prepare with a hat, a scarf, gloves, and anything else you might need (medication, snacks, water, etc.) to spend an amazing 3 to 9 hours (approximately) on this Northern Lights hunt and photography tour from Levi!
Don't miss out on a wonderful adventure in Finnish Lapland's stunning Arctic landscapes and take your chance to observe the elusive aurora borealis. Book your Northern Lights and photography tour from Levi today!
