Starting from the village of Mont-Saxonnex, this 2.5-hour via ferrata takes you into the heart of the Gorge du Cé, in Haute-Savoie. After a 15 to 20-minute walk through the forest, you put on your gear and set off on a long horizontal traverse along the cliff face, with the void beneath your feet. Deep and shaded, the Gorge du Cé is an ideal playground during the summer heat. Short vertical sections, moves on the natural holds of the rock, small cave-like hollows, flexible log ladders and a few small monkey bridges follow one another, with open views over the gorge and the suspended structures of the site. The via ferrata is a 15-minute drive from the Canyon du Bronze, so you can combine both activities on the same day.
After the second hollow, the route splits into two options: your instructor chooses the one best suited to each participant, and the group can split between the two as they run very close to each other. The family route, graded AD, follows a steeper traverse to the Grand Couloir monkey bridge, 12.5 m long, then two aerial footbridges of 33 m and 60 m. The sporty route, graded D, climbs a vertical section to the Grand Corbeau footbridge, 83 m long, followed by a series of stair-like ledges. Both routes meet on the other side of the gorge for the highlight of this via ferrata in Haute-Savoie: two optional zip lines in a row, 90 m then 110 m long, which you can do again if the site is not too busy. An easy path then takes you back to the village.
Led by a state-certified climbing and canyoning instructor, the outing takes place in a small group of up to 8 participants. Helmet, harness and gloves are provided, and the photos of your outing are free. With its short approach walk and its two routes graded AD and D, the easiest grades in via ferrata, this via ferrata in Mont-Saxonnex is suitable for beginners from 10 years old.
The Gorge du Cé via ferrata runs from May to October. You can book from 1 participant, and the outing goes ahead once the group reaches 4 participants. If the weather is unsuitable or the group is not complete, the instructor informs you the day before and offers another date or a refund.
