Visible in France only on the Atlantic and Channel coasts, high tides are fascinating because of the speed with which the sea rises and falls. This incredible natural phenomenon, caused by the gravitational pull of the moon, also affects the coastal landscape, which, sometimes underwater, sometimes in the open air, is home to a unique ecosystem. So if you are curious and want to find out more, be sure to go and see the high tides in the Baie de Somme with the enthusiastic local guides from Promenade en baie!
From the Maye car park in Le Crotoy or Le Hourdel in Cayeux-sur-Mer, depending on the weather and tide, this guided hike to observe the high tides in the Baie de Somme will take you as close as possible to the phenomenon for around 2.5 hours. You will first reach the foreshore, then walk between sandbanks and shallow water for a truly immersive experience in the heart of the bay. Of course, you will have plenty of time to stop and watch the birds, the tracks in the sand and, if you are lucky, the famous seals of the Baie de Somme. A particular point of honour will be the rise of the tide, generally the most striking moment of the outing, given the speed at which the water rises and the landscape changes!
As interesting for children as it is for adults, this educational outing to observe the high tides in the Baie de Somme offers a pleasant seaside getaway, just 1 hour's drive from Amiens. So don't miss out on the opportunity to discover the high tides with your family, your partner or your friends, with the expertise of a guide!
