About the activity
A vast natural estuary stretching between Cayeux-sur-Mer and Saint-Quentin-en-Tourmont, in the south of the Côte d'Opale, the Baie de Somme is an essential part of the Hauts-de-France region. Recognised as a Grand Site de France, this magnificent bay is well worth a visit, whether to take the little steam train that runs alongside it, stroll through the streets of its picturesque village, Saint-Valéry-sur-Somme, or observe its most popular inhabitants, the seals. But if you are lucky enough to be there on a full or new moon, don't miss out on watching the high tides in the Baie de Somme either!
The phenomenon of high tides in the Baie de Somme is an impressive sight, with the sea advancing at great speed through the estuary, giving it a new face almost every second that passes. When it is low, the sea can recede at a speed of 12 km/h, and when it is high, at nearly 10 km/h. This movement generates strong currents that shape the landscape differently each time, providing a breathtaking spectacle. And if you want to see it at close quarters and in complete safety, why not take part in this guided hike in the Baie de Somme during the great tides?
Departing from the north of Le Crotoy, this experience of observing the great tides in the Baie de Somme will give you 3 unforgettable hours in the heart of the estuary, with a guide to provide you with a wealth of enriching information on this most extraordinary of natural phenomena. So don't miss out if you can - you are sure to leave with some magical memories of your escape to the Baie de Somme!
