Looking for an incredible adventure in the snowy Pyrenees? Head to Cauterets for a snowshoe hike to Gaube Lake! Whether it's for a half-day or a full day, the instructors at Acumpanyat Cauterets invite you to discover an incredible high altitude frozen lake in the heart of the Pyrenees: Lac de Gaube.

Covering almost 23 hectares at an altitude of 1,731 metres, Gaube Lake offers a magnificent setting for snowshoe trekking in Cauterets. Nestling between a number of Pyrenean peaks over 2,000 metres high, including the Col de la Coste Ardoune, the Col de Bernadole and the Col des Mulets, you can admire the iconic Vignemale in the background.

This snowshoeing excursion to Gaube Lake takes place in the company of a qualified mountain guide, whom you will meet in the centre of Cauterets. You'll then head off together to the Plateau du Puntas, where you'll find the superb Pont d'Espagne nature reserve, before continuing your ascent to Lac de Gaube, with a climb of up to 299 metres.

The hiking route is the same for both the half-day and full-day options - the only difference is the pace. If you’d like to take your time, enjoy a picnic break by the stunning Laquet des Huats, and truly disconnect from it all, we highly recommend the full-day hike! However, if you don’t have a whole day to spare, the half-day version will still offer a wonderful escape during your stay in Cauterets.

With no major difficulties, this snowshoe hike to Gaube Lake is accessible to everyone, making it an ideal outing for families and groups of friends in the Pyrenees!

Très belle randonnée guidée, avec des sentiers que ne penserais pas emprunter. Au milieu des bois le long de ruisseaux et cascades et des isards que nous avons pus observer.

Randonnée en raquette peu physique, et accessible au plus grand nombre. Notre guide, Stéphane, était super sympa, et nous a fait découvrir le parcours en dehors des "sentiers battus" et touristiques. De nombreuses explications sur la faune et la flore pour agrémenter la journée. Bref, que du bonheur !
