Want to discover the Hérault gorges in a different way? Explore the lower part of the Diable canyon at Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert!
Ideally located near Montpellier, the Diable canyon is an exceptional place where erosion has shaped the landscape for thousands of years. The canyoning activity in the Hérault gorges offered by the Office des Moniteurs du Languedoc, in the lower part of the Diable canyon, is perfect for anyone from the age of 8!
The various obstacles along the way will give you the chance to try your hand at abseiling, splash zip-lining, jumping from varying heights and white-water swimming. Don't panic: if you don't feel up to any of these obstacles, none of them are compulsory, and you can enjoy the canyon at your own pace!
The magnificent setting of the Hérault gorges is in itself a reason to turn to canyoning in the Diable gorges near Montpellier. The activity, which lasts around 3 hours, takes place in the narrowest part of the Diable canyon and ends in the bief below the Clamouse cave.

Descent of the lower part of the Diable canyon: no jumps or abseiling required
Course of events
- Meeting with the instructor at the meeting point
- Approach to the canyon on foot or by shuttle bus (from mid-July)
- Equipment and safety briefing
- Descend the lower part of the Diable canyon for around 3 hours
- 5 minutes walk back to the meeting point, de-equipping and end of the activity
Activity requirements
Knowing how to swim is compulsory for this activity.
Minors under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Minors aged 14 and over may participate on their own, provided they present a completed and signed parental authorisation on the day of the outing.

This activity is weather-dependent. If the weather does not allow for the activity to take place, we will contact you to reschedule or receive a full refund.
