In 1905, Edouard-Alfred Martel and his team were the first to explore the Verdon’s Grand Canyon by canoe, and now you can do it too. With Aquattitude, you can rent a kayak or canoe in Montpezat for the duration that suits you, then set off at your own pace to discover this exceptional, unspoiled natural site.
The Verdon Gorges form one of Europe’s oldest valleys, shaped by countless canyons, towering cliffs, and the turquoise waters of the Verdon River winding through them. Renting a canoe-kayak with Aquattitude gives you access to the enchanting Baudinard Canyon. Located in the heart of the Verdon Regional Natural Park and part of the Lower Verdon Gorges, Baudinard is home to two lakes: Lake Montpezat and the smaller Lake Artignosc, known for its lovely little beaches and calm waters. The canyon itself is a narrow corridor framed by 100 to 150-meter-high cliffs, with rock walls punctured by many caves, some even hiding underground labyrinths. The most remarkable are Baume de l’Église and Baume aux Pastels.
At Aquattitude’s watersports base, you’ll find free parking, dry toilets, and changing rooms. You can choose between a 3-hour or 6-hour canoe-kayak rental, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the scenery.
From the Montpezat base, several routes are available depending on what you’re looking for. Baudinard Canyon immerses you in a striking, narrow passage lined with 150-meter-high rock walls, dotted with impressive caves like Baume de l’Église, and lush waterfalls you can even paddle beneath. If you prefer a calmer, more wild atmosphere, the Saint-Laurent Gorges are much less crowded and offer noticeably warmer water, reaching up to 25°C in summer, compared to the Baudinard Canyon’s steady 10°C.
Rental options also vary in size: you can choose a single or two-seater kayak, or a 3- or 4-seater canoe (with children), making it a perfect activity to share with friends or family. Prices are per boat, so feel free to pick the canoe or kayak size that suits you best.
The Aquattitude team will welcome you on site, provide your gear (life jackets, paddles, dry bags), and give you a full briefing before you set off. This briefing is essential for identifying where swimming and picnicking are allowed, such as the beaches of Lake Cadenon or Lake Montpezat. Aquattitude boats combine stability and comfort with a smooth glide, making them easy to handle safely, whatever your experience level. Once you’re settled in, all that’s left to do is relax under the bright Provençal sun, paddle down the Verdon River, and soak up the incredible views along the way.
Book your canoe-kayak rental in the Verdon Gorges now and discover the beautiful Baudinard Canyon, with its hidden caves and clear, refreshing waters.
