Enjoy an informative and enjoyable trekking tour in the foothills of Mount Filerimos in Rhodes as the sun sets on the horizon!

Rhodes is one of the largest and most popular islands in Greece, situated in the southeastern part of the Aegean Sea. It is the principal island of the Dodecanese archipelago and is known for its rich history, medieval architecture, beautiful beaches, and vibrant atmosphere. This tour takes place at Filerimos, a historic site and hill located about 12 kilometres southwest of Rhodes town.

Upon booking, you will arrange the meeting point with your guide in Rhodes city centre. The experienced guide will pick you up and drive to the foothills of Mount Filerimos. You can also pre-arrange some additional activities with your guide for the day, including aerobic exercises, swimming or yoga.

The trek starts in the foothills of the mountain. It is said that the Greek goddess Athena used it to climb to the peak where the ancient acropolis of Filerimos is located. On the way to the peak, you will stop at the fountain where the summer home of the island’s governors is located. Upon arrival at the peak, you will visit the ruins of the ancient Acropolis. You will have a great panoramic view of the island’s eastern and western sides.

The guide will then lead the way to the giant cross at the highest point of the mountain. On the way up to the cross, every 5 metres on the right side, you will see the ‘Stations of the Cross’ carved on marble columns during the period of Italian rule. The road to the cross depicts Christ’s Golgotha. Upon reaching the cross you will have a 360° view of the island. Looking straight ahead you will see the southern side of the island, the two civilian airports (old and new). On the right, you will see Asia Minor.

At the peak, a delicious meal will be served while you rest. Enjoy a Greek sandwich with feta cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, olives and olive oil. The sun will be starting to set at the time, casting a golden hue across the sky. Take in the breathtaking panoramic view. Heading downhill, there is a continuous view of the island’s north-western side which faces the Eastern Mediterranean.

Embark on this enjoyable hike at Filerimos in Rhodes, learning about its ancient Greek history and taking in the mesmerising views at sunset!
