About the activity

Embark on a wonderful adventure to Odysseus' mythical island, bathe in its stunning turquoise waters, and get to know its beaches on this amazing boat cruise to Ithaca from Sami, in Kefalonia! Located just west of mainland Greece, Kefalonia and Ithaca are two beautiful islands on the Ionian Sea. Portrayed in the legendary epic, The Odyssey, as the home of its iconic hero, Ithaca is only 46 kilometres east of Kefalonia, and its history can be traced to the 4th millennium BC. But this island is also known for its beautiful landscapes, with paradisiacal beaches, lively tavernas, tranquil villages, and more.

On the day of your boat cruise to Ithaca, you'll have to arrive at the meeting point at the Port in Sami, in northeastern Kefalonia. There, your Kefalonia Excursions instructor will give you a warm welcome, check you in, and lead you to the 'Christina III', a traditional handcrafted wooden boat. You'll hop on board, and after a short safety and itinerary briefing, you'll sail off!

Your first stop will be at Pera Pigadi, where you'll get to swim in crystal-clear, turquoise waters. Next, you'll head to Filiatro and Gidaki Beaches, where you'll make 2 different stops to swim or lounge on the beautiful pebbly beaches and enjoy the natural views of eastern Ithaca. Once you've had your fill of swimming and enjoying the island vibes, you'll make a stop at Vathy, the island's capital. In this beautiful village with picturesque Venetian-style buildings and waterfront tavernas, you'll have time to have lunch (not included in the price) and wander around the quaint, narrow streets, before reembarking for one last adventure. You'll visit Lazaretto Island, a tiny islet just off Vathy's harbour, and visit its iconic chapel, as well as get great pictures of the turquoise waters and the island.

The water temperatures in the Ionian Sea, near Kefalonia, don't tend to go below 15 degrees Celsius and can even reach up to 30 degrees Celsius. Which is why all you need to bring is a swimsuit, a towel, sunscreen, an extra change of clothes to change into, comfortable clothing, and a camera to capture the incredible experience. Keep in mind that if you want to swim during this wonderful 7-hour boat cruise from Kefalonia, you need to know how to do so independently, since there will be no available supervision.

Take your chance to spend a day under the Greek sun and enjoy the beautiful beaches, waters, and villages of an iconic island. Book your boat cruise to Ithaca from Sami, in Kefalonia!
