Mykonos is part of the Cyclades group of islands in Greece, located in the Aegean Sea. It’s known for its picturesque landscapes, stunning sunsets, and white-washed buildings. The island is also dotted with magnificent sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters. On this hiking adventure, you’ll explore the lush greenery and charming villages of Mykonos.
The excursion begins with pick-up from your accommodation in Mykonos (please specify your location when booking) and a drive to the starting point, “Mykonian Farm”, a traditional farm at Ano Mera village. For this activity, you can book a 5-hour or 6-hour hike. Everyone is welcome on the 5-hour hike, but you must have experience with hiking for the 6-hour option. You will meet the experienced guide at the farm, who will accompany you on your trip. They will go through the itinerary and provide you with the equipment (a backpack with food, bottled water and a walking stick). After a small tour of the farm and the adorable animals, the hiking adventure begins!
To start, the guide will drive you to another farm, “Maou”. You’ll start hiking through the narrow streets of Maou, between quaint estates and traditional homes. Following the guide, you will pass through a picturesque setting, with a lake dam, local fishermen and grazing animals. When you arrive at the dam, you will have a magnificent panoramic view, where you will stop for a short rest. The guide will share stories about the history of the island as you take in the mesmerising views.
After your break, you will continue hiking until you reach Mersini, a small sandy beach. Here, you’ll have some time for a refreshing swim in the turquoise waters, where you can cool off after your hike! For the 5-hour option, the guide will then drive you back to the starting point at Mykonian Farm, before your return transfer to your accommodation in Mykonos.
If you choose the 6-hour option, the hike will continue after the swim! You’ll embark on a more challenging path, which leads to another excellent viewpoint. From here, you’ll have a perfect view of the islands of Ikaria, Samos and Tinos as you ascend the hill. On the left of the hill, you will see large holes created from granite mines, which the guide will share insights about. After reaching the highest point of the hike, you’ll pass a farm with horses and beautiful bougainvillaeas, reaching a small blue chapel.
At the chapel, you’ll stop for a short break to take in the tranquil surroundings and feel the refreshing breeze. Then, you’ll continue to the final point of the hike, the shipyards of Elm, an interesting spot where amateur fishermen guard their small boats. You’ll then be picked up and driven back to Mykonian Farm, where you will receive your return transfer to your accommodation in Mykonos.
