Activity requirements
This trip is a full-day, human-powered adventure. When hiking, you will carry your boat, drysuit, paddle, and glacier gear (approx. 10kg), in addition to personal gear such as clothing, food, and water. You will hike over rocky, uneven terrain, including some uphill sections, which means that you should be physically active and be used to hiking and being outdoors.
You must not have any medical contraindications to take part in this activity.
All minors must be accompanied by an adult.

On the day of your kayaking and hiking excursion around Fláajökull glacier, near Skaftafell, you'll need to arrive at the meeting point in the Hotel Smyrlabjörg. There, you'll meet your expert instructor and learn about all the safety measures you'll need to take to have a great time throughout the day. Then, you'll receive your equipment, which will include an inflatable kayak, paddle, PFD (life jacket), drysuit, water shoes, crampons, a helmet, harness, and an ice axe, and have some time to gear up before the adventure starts.
Once you're prepared, it will be time to go! You'll start your kayaking and hiking excursion around Fláajökull glacier, near Skaftafell, by taking a 20 to 30-minute ride in a 4x4 vehicle that will take you toward the starting point of the activity. Then, you'll hike for around 30 minutes toward the lake where you'll kayak, and pass through the spectacular Bólstaðafoss waterfall. You'll take the time to inflate the kayak and listen to a few recommendations from your instructor before you dive in.
You'll paddle for around 30 minutes, which will be enough to cross the lake and observe the stunning glacier wall. There, you'll strap on your crampons and take a long hike to explore its huge crevasses, moulins, and other icy mountains.
