Explore the unspoilt landscapes of the Valnerina uniquely by joining this guided mountain bike tour along the old Spoleto–Norcia railway line! This route, steeped in history, follows the disused track of a historic railway line nicknamed the “Little Umbrian Gotthard” by the locals. Sant’Anatolia di Narco, the focal point of this adventure, is the beating heart of the Nera Valley, where the old railway infrastructure now blends harmoniously into the wild, lush countryside. Whether you are a casual cyclist or an experienced rider, the team at Umbria in Mountain Bike will tailor the route for this outing to suit your group’s ability.
For this mountain bike ride along the old Spoleto–Norcia railway line, 2 routes of around 2.5 hours each are available, depending on the participants’ fitness levels: the “Valley” route, a return journey of around 38 km between Sant’Anatolia di Narco and Borgo Cerreto, passing over 5 viaducts and through 3 short tunnels without artificial lighting, suitable for all abilities; and the “Mountain” route, a 20 km loop for experienced cyclists featuring a steady 6 km climb on tarmac up to the Forca di Cerro pass, with average gradients of 12% and an elevation gain of 600 metres. Before setting off, the guide will choose which route to take based on your group, ensuring a perfectly tailored experience in complete safety.
Located less than a 2-hour drive north of Rome, the Umbria in Mountain Bike base is open all year round, inviting you to explore the old Spoleto–Norcia railway line. So don’t miss out on this opportunity – head to Arrone to take part in this mountain bike excursion!
