About the activity

Less than a 2-hour drive north of Rome lies the Nera River Park, a protected natural area that is not to be missed if you are fancying a nature getaway in the heart of Umbria. Indeed, this area offers a wide range of outdoor activities, including this guided mountain bike tour to Scheggino, setting off from Arrone. Designed for cycling enthusiasts aged 7 and over who are in good physical condition, this ride follows the Via delle Acque along the left bank of the River Nera, tracing the route of the old Terni–Ferentillo tram line. In total, the proposed route covers around 40 km through the heart of the Nera River Park, passing through forests and authentic villages that provide the ideal setting for an outdoor getaway.

The Umbria in Mountain Bike team invites you to join them on this 3-hour mountain bike ride through the Nera River Park, heading towards the medieval village of Scheggino. It will take you about 1 hour and 15 minutes to cycle to the village, where you will take the time to explore, whilst listening to your guide share their knowledge about the place. On the way back to Arrone, you will be offered the chance – but only if your group consists of experienced cyclists – to take a detour via the ghost village of Umbriano, which can be reached via a rugged 1.5 km climb with gradients of 20%. It will be up to your guide to decide whether or not your group is able to take this challenging detour.

So if you enjoy cycling in the great outdoors and fancy exploring the Nera River Park, be sure to join this guided mountain bike tour between Arrone and Scheggino!
