Course of events
You should plan to spend between 3 and 4 hours on this activity with a 45 to 50-minute dive:
- Arrival at the diving centre in Ballstad 5 minutes before the departure time
- Meet your experienced instructor
- Scuba diving equipment distribution
- 45 to 60-minute safety and itinerary briefing
- Introduction to scuba diving and underwater breathing techniques
- 15 to 20-minute boat ride to the dive spot
- 45 to 50-minute practice and first dive!
- 15 to 20-minute boat ride back to Ballstad
- Equipment return
- 30-minute debriefing with your instructor over a hot drink and end of the activity
Activity requirements
Please arrive at the meeting point at least 5 minutes before your departure time as indicated in the itinerary.
Please be advised that all participants must know how to swim.
In addition, this activity is suited for those who have never scuba-dived before.
A minimum height of 150 cm (4'9") is required.
Being in good physical condition and knowing how to swim is required to take part in this activity.
All minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Scuba diving in Lofoten is the perfect way to immerse yourself in the Arctic wilderness and discover the local wildlife without the need for previous experience.
The goal of this 3-hour diving experience in the Lofoten Archipelago is to introduce you to the sensations of scuba diving and breathing underwater during winter in the most stress-free and enjoyable environment possible! Your adventure begins at the Lofoten Diving Centre in Ballstad, where you will meet your certified scuba diving instructor. They'll distribute the dry suit, warm undergarment, mask, tank, weight belt, and fins, and tell you exactly how to set it up to ensure your safety throughout the experience.
After you've changed into your gear, your PADI-certified instructor will introduce you to the essentials of scuba diving. In addition, you'll learn about the technical equipment as the instructor briefs you on underwater diving procedures and breathing techniques. Then, you will embark on a RIB (rigid inflatable boat) boat and head out on a scenic tour toward the dive spot chosen for the day. Upon your arrival, you'll have one last equipment check and a few practice exercises before it's time to take the plunge into the Arctic waters of the Lofoten Archipelago!
You'll explore Norway's incredible marine life, in waters that will be between 2 to 5 degrees Celsius. You'll descend 6 metres (19.6 feet) under the surface with an instructor by your side the entire time. They will keep you safe as you discover Arctic flora and fauna such as kelp, starfish, sea urchins, as well as diverse species of fish, and much more! At the end of the dive, you'll return to the diving centre and change out of your scuba gear. To finish this fun-filled excursion, you'll be treated to a steaming cup of coffee or tea with your instructor. A great way to finish an amazing day in Lofoten!
