Located less than an hour from Narvik, in the county of Troms, Gratangen is a small municipality in northern Norway known for its picturesque landscapes, the fjord that bears its name, and its breathtaking mountains. In winter, it experiences true Arctic conditions that not only create a pristine, snow-covered landscape but also offer countless opportunities to witness the Northern Lights once night falls. To combine the thrill of a snowy adventure with the magic of the aurora borealis, the team at Husky Isogaisa invites you to join them for an unforgettable night-time dog sledging excursion in Gratangen, far away from any light pollution!
To make your dog sledding experience truly memorable, you will have the chance to take the reins of your own team of 4 to 6 huskies and, if your passenger wishes, swap places to enjoy the ride from the comfort of the sled. An experienced musher will ensure your safety throughout the adventure, from the initial briefing on how to drive the sled to the moment you return, when you will be able to thank your new four-legged friends with a well-deserved cuddle. Altogether, you will spend between 30 and 60 minutes sledding through the forest surrounding the farm, under the night sky and perhaps, if you are lucky, beneath the shimmering Northern Lights!
Once your dog sledding adventure comes to an end, you will be welcomed into a heated lavvu, a traditional Sami tent, where you will share a delicious meal and discover the mystical culture of the Sami people. Surrounded by folklore tales, bidos (a stew of reindeer meat, potatoes, and carrots), and warm drinks, you will enjoy an evening filled with warmth and authenticity alongside your local guides. And that’s not all: the experience concludes with a traditional ceremony said to encourage the Northern Lights to appear. According to Sami beliefs, the souls of our ancestors live within the aurora, which they call “Guovssahas.” Will you be lucky enough to see them dance across the sky that night, bringing your adventure to a truly magical close? There is only one way to find out: book your place on this dog sledding excursion with Northern Lights in Gratangen!
