About the activity
Experience the Arctic like never before and search for some of the most fascinating animals in the world with an expert who knows how to find them while respecting their space and environment on this amazing whale-watching boat safari from Skjervøy! Located in northeastern Norway, Skjervøy is a small town on an island that's inside the Arctic Circle. This town is known world-wide for its whale-watching possibilities, since, from October to January, the herring migration brings an abundance of diverse whale species to the fjords that surround it.
On the day of your whale-watching RIB boat safari from Skjervøy, you'll need to arrive at the town's harbor at least 15 minutes before the start of the experience. There, you will meet your instructor, who will welcome you to Skjervøy and tell you about the itinerary for the day, as well as set a few safety rules for the tour, so you can enjoy it fully. They will also distribute the thermal suits, boots, and mittens you'll wear to stay warm throughout this adventure in the Arctic.
Once you're all geared up, you'll embark on the RIB boat, and sail off! On this incredible Arctic adventure, you'll have the chance to observe orcas, humpback whales, killer whales, fin whales, porpoises, seals and even sperm whales, as well as diverse bird species like the sea eagle. You'll sail around the fjords in search of them, and when you find them, your instructor will turn of the engine, so you can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this natural wonder and the sounds of the whales themselves. Once the time is up, you'll return to Skjervøy to warm up with some hot drinks and a light lunch, and discuss your wonderful experience with your captain.
Now, there are a few things to keep in mind when you book this wonderful whale-watching boat safari from Skjervøy. First and foremost, as much as your instructor wants you to observe the whales and other wildlife of the Norwegian fjords, they can't guarantee that you will, since the animals are in their natural environment and might simply not be there or no come to the surface. Second, this adventure takes place in a RIB boat, which is almost the equivalent of a rubber speedboat, which means that there is nothing to cover you from the elements and the arctic cold while you're on it, the ride might be wavy and bumpy, and you might be sprayed with sea water, so if you bring electronics, you should bring a waterproof bag to keep them in. Lastly, since the boat is small, there are no toilets on board, so you'll have to spend around 3 hours at sea without them. With all this, it is important that you bring very warm layers to wear under the thermal suit, including wool or thermal underwear, extra layers on top, and even a wind and waterproof jacket that you'll wear under the suit. You should also bring a hat, scarf, gloves, snacks, drinks, and anything else you might need (medicine, glasses, etc.) to have a good time on this experience.
Don't miss out on the wonderful opportunity to observe the world's biggest mammals with an expert who knows the Norwegian fjords like the back of their hand and will do their best to find these incredible animals for you. Book your whale-watching boat safari from Skjervøy today!
