Activity description

Embark on a day-long adventure in the Arctic, mushing your own team of Alaskan huskies, followed by a guided visit to the magical Ice Domes in Tromsø, and get up close with the festive reindeers!

Combine an all-in-one package, for a fulsome day in the winter wonderland of Northern Norway, situated north of the Arctic Circle. Set among the high mountains, and a snow-covered valley, the Ice Domes are home to some incredible ice sculptures and impressive snow carvings. Treat yourself to a unique guided tour in this historic hotel during your stay in Tromsø!

Your adventure begins with a pick-up from the city center in Tromsø, where you will embark on a 90-minute scenic ride, admiring the mesmerising landscapes and white-washed mountains of the Arctic. Upon arrival, you will receive warm winter overalls, and follow a safety briefing and a mushing demonstration with special techniques.  Once you're set, you will head out to meet the huskies who will take you on an unforgettable journey into the Arctic wilderness. Each sled will be shared between two participants, with the opportunity to swap drivers during the experience.

The dogs are well-trained and love to run, but as teamwork is essential, there will be parts on the trip where you will have to help and push the sled together with your pack. Depending on the snow conditions, the ride will be approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. After the tour, you will relax by the roaring fire in a traditional reindeer herder's tent, and enjoy a delicious and locally produced warm meal.

Once you've recharged, you will head to the Ice Domes, and begin the entertaining tour through the magical icy rooms. The hotel is entirely rebuilt each year out of ice, portraying some of the most typical Northern Norwegian and Arctic themes, including the Northern Lights, the Sami culture, and the wonderful Arctic animals. Immerse yourself in the Arctic history, while taking in the fantastic coloured lighting in this unique setting.

As your guide takes you on a tour around the different rooms, you will learn some insights about the construction process of the domes, and the impact of the snow in the Arctic. You will then be treated to a non-alcoholic ice shot at the impressive ice bar, and have some free time to explore the Ice Domes and meet the reindeers, right next to the Ice Hotel, before heading back to Tromsø.

Book your Ice Domes Visit, and combine your day with a self-drive dog sledding ride, and meet the festive reindeers, important to the Arctic region and Tromsø!

The husky sledding was a lot of fun and the scenery was amazing, but it was quite hard work! The fish soup was really good and much needed! Unfortunately we didn’t get much time for the Ice Domes.
