Activity description

Looking for an authentic Norwegian experience? Want to try something completely different? Join along for an authentic Sami farm visit to learn about the Sami culture and feed your new furry friends, followed by a taste of local culture!

The Sami people, the original inhabitants of Scandinavia, have been living side by side with reindeer for centuries. You now have the chance to have a taste of this amazing culture. You will be picked up from Tromso city centre, and be driven to the reindeer farm along a 25-minute seaside route.

Once you've arrived at the reindeer camp, you'll be warmly welcomed by the reindeer herders, who will teach you about these amazing animals and their role in Sami culture. At the camp, you'll spot a herd of over 300 reindeer and another 1000 or so in the mountains running free!

You will head over to meet the herd. Over 300 friendly reindeer will quickly surround you. You will spend some quality time with them, giving them some cuddles and food. Your Sami guide will even teach you how to use a lasso, as they do often when hunting.

After this intimate moment with the reindeer, you'll be invited to a gamme or a lavvu where you'll enjoy some Sami food and hot drinks by a fire. You'll then be invited to gather to hear some Sami folklore, and listen to your guide sing some traditional Sami music, a joik.

A 25 min. ride back to Tromsø will allow you to soak in an incredible day in the wild!
