Activity description

Take a trip to the frozen fjords surrounding the city of Tromsø to experience the traditional Norwegian custom of ice fishing. With the help of our guides, learn to catch fish beneath thick layers of ice, and cook it on an open fire at one of the barbecue huts nearby!

We will pick you up in Tromsø and drive no more than 30 minutes to a nearby frozen fjord, where we will set up base for our fishing expedition. We will provide you with all the necessary fishing equipment, including security equipment such as ice picks and life jackets.

In this period of the year, there's a big migration of Arctic cod, or Skrei, that makes its way around Northern Norway. These will be the dominant type of fish we will attempt to bait. We will drill our ice hole, prepare our bait, and reel out our rods into the water, waiting for a bite.

With a little luck, we will all manage to catch a fish, after which we will transport them to a nearby hut. There, we will learn to gut the fish and cook it on fire for our lunch! If we do not catch any fish, do not worry, we will not starve. A hot fish dish will be served one way or another.

We will make our way back to Tromsø around 3 PM.

Une excursion qui vaut le coup. Je ne m'attendais pas à cela mais tant mieux. nous avons passé une excellente journée, avec une organisation très ajustée.

Génial !

Spot and guide were really nice, but we stayed in harsh cold during 1.5hr and got only one fish (fortunately...) at the very end! I know it's something beyond our control but I find the whole experience overpriced for what it delivers. I enjoyed all the rest though, including: the welcome from the guide, the explanations of the fishing method (even if I didn't have the opportunity to go all the way), the preparation of the meal and the meal itself.

Karin from Skadi adventures is such a dedicated and warm guide. We had a good mix of ice fishing, a home BBQ and great company in the group of eight.

It is a really fun experience fishing in the winter. You get the experience drilling and fishing with the help of the instructor. Moreover, you get to eat the fish that you caught.

We had never been ice fishing, and thought it might be interesting to try. SO glad we did! We were contacted a couple days before we were scheduled to go, because our guide had been concerned that the ice would not be sufficiently solid and safe for us to proceed. However, the weather cooperated and the ice was frozen and thick enough for us to go. In our small group, there was a couple including one guy who was a fly fishing guide at home; and a family of 3 including a father and son who both enjoyed fishing regularly and had considerable experience. Our family enjoyed the experiences of walking out onto the frozen water, drilling our own holes using the guide's equipment, being out in the beautiful, scenic fjord, and the small group. All 8 of us caught fish, and so much that our guide was surprised.
