Discover Horseback Riding on Piton Maïdo, Réunion Island

Accessible to everyone from the age of 9, this horseback ride in La Réunion has been specially designed for beginners and for those who might feel a little nervous about their first horseback ride. Guided by certified instructors (BPJEPS in equestrian sports or equestrian tourism), you can set off with confidence and make the most of this one-hour initiation.

Your horse-riding experience at Piton Maïdo begins with a 20–25 minute introduction at the riding school in a safe, controlled environment. You will then head out for a 30–35 minute ride at walking pace, exploring charming trails near Piton Maïdo overlooking the island’s western coastline. If all riders feel comfortable, there may also be the chance to try a little trot.

All along the way, you’ll be surrounded by breathtaking scenery, just steps away from Piton Maïdo, the island’s famous mountain peak rising to about 2,200 meters. From horseback, you’ll admire the island’s preserved natural landscapes, with lush green mountains on one side and the golden sandy beaches and turquoise lagoon of Saint-Paul’s western coast on the other.

Ideally located about 45 minutes from Saint-Paul or Saint-Gilles, the Chevaux du Maïdo riding centre is the perfect place to discover the stunning landscapes of western La Réunion on horseback. Nestled in a lush and preserved forest with spectacular viewpoints, the centre offers a warm welcome, and the instructors’ teaching skills will quickly help you overcome any initial hesitation.
