Practical information
Discover the legendary Caminito del Rey on a guided excursion through one of Spain’s most spectacular natural landscapes. Nestled in the heart of Andalusia near Málaga, this unique walkway suspended high above the Gaitanes Gorge offers an unforgettable adventure, combining nature, history, and a touch of adrenaline.
Once known as the most dangerous path in the world, the Caminito del Rey has undergone a remarkable restoration and now offers a safe and accessible experience without losing its dramatic character. The excursion starts either with transport from Málaga, Torremolinos, Benalmádena or Fuengirola, or directly at the El Chorro access point for those coming by car or train. After a short transfer to the northern entrance near Ardales, you'll begin your walk equipped with a helmet and accompanied by a professional guide throughout the journey.
The trail stretches over 7.7 km, with suspended footbridges, cliffside paths, and panoramic viewpoints soaring up to 100 meters above the Guadalhorce River. With the guidance of a certified expert, you'll explore the entire route in around 3 hours, learning about the area's rich history, geology, flora and fauna, and the fascinating story of the trail's royal origins and recent rehabilitation.
The path offers incredible views over the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, crosses hanging bridges and traces part of the old railway carved into the rock, all while immersing you in the silence and majesty of the canyon. You will also be able to admire the Conde del Guadalhorce reservoir. The highlight of the route is undoubtedly the final suspension bridge, hanging more than 100 meters above the gorge.
This activity is not recommended for people with strong vertigo, as the route includes long suspended walkways and exposed sections with a constant sensation of height. The path features a slight downward slope, with some stairs and elevated segments, and is suitable for participants in moderate physical condition. The group is always accompanied by a certified and officially authorised guide, who ensures safety, sets the pace, and shares relevant information throughout the entire walk — from the entrance to the exit. Groups are limited to a maximum of 30 people per guide, in line with site regulations.
There is free parking available near the meeting point, as well as public toilets at the start and end of the trail. However, no changing rooms or lockers are available. Participants should wear comfortable clothing, bring a small backpack, and carry only the essentials, as all personal items must be taken along during the hike.
Whether you’re seeking stunning photo opportunities, a quiet escape into nature, or a unique way to discover the Andalusian countryside, this guided walk along the Caminito del Rey near Malaga is an absolute must.
