About the activity

Situated at the foot of the spectacular Picos de Europa National Park, the Vallegón Canyon is the perfect setting for a canyoning adventure that combines excitement, nature, and fun. This canyoning route is accessible to beginners and families, as well as those looking for something more active, provided participants can swim and are at least 140 cm tall. Throughout the descent, you will encounter natural waterslides, optional jumps of up to three meters, and thrilling abseils, with the highest reaching 14 meters. All of these obstacles can be adapted to your level, making the Vallegón Canyon ideal both for those discovering canyoning for the first time and for enthusiasts who wish to practise their skills in a stunning natural environment.

Your experience begins at the Los Cauces base in Arriondas, located just 30 minutes from the canyon. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by the professional team, who will provide you with all the necessary canyoning equipment, including a neoprene wetsuit, helmet, and harness. After gearing up, you will board a shuttle bus for a 30-minute ride to the canyon. A safety briefing and introduction to canyoning techniques will then be given by your certified instructors before a short 10-minute approach walk takes you to the start of the descent.

The canyoning adventure itself lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours and is a true water-filled journey through the heart of the Picos de Europa. You will slide down natural rock chutes, abseil along waterfalls, and, if you wish, leap into clear pools from safe jumping spots. The water temperature varies depending on the season, averaging around 15°C, with slightly lower temperatures in spring and autumn. After completing the descent, a short five-minute walk will take you back to the shuttle, which will return you to the base in Arriondas in about 30 minutes. Once there, you can de-equip and make use of the facilities, which include changing rooms, showers, and toilets, ensuring a comfortable end to your adventure.

Throughout the entire activity, you will be guided and supervised by two qualified instructors. Their role is not only to guarantee your safety but also to encourage you and help you overcome the different obstacles along the way. Thanks to their expertise and support, you can focus on enjoying every moment of the canyoning experience and immersing yourself in the breathtaking landscapes of northern Spain.

In total, you should allow between four and five hours for the whole excursion, including transfers, preparation, and the canyoning itself. Whether you come with family or friends, canyoning in the Vallegón Canyon promises an unforgettable experience filled with adventure, laughter, and incredible memories. It is one of the best ways to explore the wild beauty of the Picos de Europa National Park from a unique perspective.

All that’s left is to book your spot and get ready to discover the thrill of canyoning in the Vallegón Canyon, just outside Arriondas, for an experience you will remember long after your return.
