Just 16 km from Potes, the charming village of La Hermida is home to one of Cantabria’s most exciting via ferratas. Nestled in the are of Picos de Europa, this natural area offers a spectacular setting for a sporty journey.

The route begins with an easy section to ease you into the climb, then gradually increases in difficulty as you ascend. Equipped with iron rungs, safety cables and breathtaking viewpoints, the via ferrata follows the mountain wall with around 200 metres of elevation gain. Along the way, you’ll cross forest paths and tackle vertical rock faces, including a 40-metre wall and an overhanging 10-metre section that adds a fun challenge to the ascent.

The highlight of the experience? Two suspended bridges that offer both adrenaline and unbeatable views over the river and gorge below. The first is a solid cable bridge of 35 metres, while the second is a stunning 95-metre-long Tibetan bridge, the longest of its kind in the Picos de Europa!

Depending on your level and preferences, the route offers a choice between three sections after the initial climb. One option follows a similar difficulty to the start, another leads across the Tibetan bridge, and the last one - more physically demanding - is reserved for those with experience and excellent fitness.

This via ferrata is graded between K3 and K4, making it suitable for sporty beginners and intermediate-level adventurers. Once past the first section, there are no emergency exits, so be ready to complete the route. But don't worry: there are rest stops and photo opportunities along the way to catch your breath and take in the scenery.

At the end of the route, a 45-minute descent on a mountain path will bring you back to the meeting point. The first part of the trail is a bit technical, but the final stretch joins the main road for an easier finish.

Please note: the meeting point is a public parking area. In summer, it can get busy, so plan to arrive early. There are no restrooms, lockers or changing facilities available on site, but the area is safe.

Get ready for a thrilling vertical adventure with panoramic views and one of the most impressive suspension bridges in northern Spain!

Loved it! Our first time on a Via Ferata. As a family with 2 young-ish children (10 and 14), we were advised to do the Los Llanos route (less demanding, and crucially with more bail-out points en-route than la Bermuda). Glad we did. Several of us climb (indoors) regularly, and still found this route a challenge. My youngest daughter who is (relatively) small for a 10yr old at 1.4m had to Dyno some of the holds. I would say in my opinion it would be a tough challenge for anyone smaller or younger, without some previous climbing experience.
