Marseille: What to do when you get there?

Marseille is the biggest city in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, in southeastern France. Located near the Mediterranean Sea and with over 26 centuries of history, this dynamic and cosmopolitan city combines both traditions and modernity.

Thanks to its location on a 57 km coastline, Greek sailors decided to settle in to make it a commercial port and trading centre. This is how Marseille became the oldest French city and the 1st commercial port in France.

There are so many things to tell about Marseille that it's impossible to sum up its history in a few paragraphs. Same for the numerous tourist attractions that you all have to visit during your stay in the city. Among these attractions, we have the Vieux-Port, one of the oldest sites of Marseille, and the basilica of Notre-Dame de la Garde. Go on a guided tour to know more about its history and enjoy a breathtaking panorama over the city from the top of the hill where it was built. Don't hesitate to wander through the different areas to discover more emblematic spots.

Now, let's talk about what is the most interesting for us: outdoor sports and activities! The numerous beaches in Marseille offer you the possibility to practice different nautical sports while enjoying the sunny weather of the French Riviera.

On the beach of la Pointe Rouge, one of the most popular, you can for example practice flyboarding. This sensational activity allows you to fly above the water and to benefit from an amazing view over the bay of Marseille. You can also try sea kayaking, sailing, rowing, windsurfing, catamaran and many more.

If you wish to explore the submarine world, scuba diving is mainly practiced around the Rade islands. Several schools and associations provide first and adventure dives during few days so that you can fully enjoy your experience.

The Calanques National Park is the perfect place for rock climbing and hiking. The hiking trails marked between the Massifs de Marseilleveryre and the Mont Puget allow you to explore the cliffs and hidden cricks in complete safety. The cliffs offer numerous possibilities for climbing on a fabulous limestone rock and adapted to all levels.

The warm climate and excellent location of Marseille make it an exceptional spot for all the sports and outdoor activities lovers.
