The water in the Blue Lagoon is so clear you can see the seabed even when it’s several metres deep. This makes it perfect for snorkelling, as you can watch schools of fish dart around the rocks beneath you. Bring your own mask and fins, as there are no facilities to rent gear here.

Boat Trips

Most visitors reach the lagoon by boat from the fishing village of Latchi, and the journey is part of the experience. Small tour boats, self-drive motorboats, and guided kayaking trips all take you along the rugged Akamas coastline, past sea caves and hidden coves before arriving at the lagoon.

Explore the Sea Caves and Remote Beaches Nearby

The coastline around the Blue Lagoon is dotted with dramatic sea caves and hidden beaches. If you have access to a boat or kayak, you can venture out to discover smaller bays with nobody else around. Nearby Fontana Amorosa, another beautiful bay, is worth visiting if you have time.

Local Tips

The Blue Lagoon is a protected area, so bring everything you need with you and leave no trace behind. There are no shops or facilities at the lagoon itself, so pack water, snacks, suncream, and a sun hat.

If you plan to swim or snorkel, wear reef-safe suncream to protect the fragile marine life. Avoid standing on or touching any underwater rocks where sea creatures live.

The lagoon can get busy in high season, particularly in the middle of the day when boat trips are at their peak. For a more peaceful experience, try to visit early in the morning or later in the afternoon.

Best Time to Visit the Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon is most enjoyable between April and October when the weather is warm and the sea is calm and inviting. Spring and early summer bring fewer crowds, while July and August are the busiest months, with more boat traffic.

The water is warmest from June to October, making it ideal for swimming and snorkelling. If you visit outside these months, you may have the bay to yourself, but the water will be cooler.

How to Get to the Blue Lagoon

By Boat

The easiest and most popular way to reach the Blue Lagoon is by boat from Latchi Harbour, a small village about 45 minutes’ drive from Paphos. There are regular boat trips throughout the day, ranging from small traditional boats to larger vessels with shaded decks.

If you want more independence, you can also rent a self-drive motorboat from Latchi, which lets you explore the coastline at your own pace. No licence is required for small boats, and the calm waters make it accessible even for beginners.

By Quad/Buggy

It is possible to drive to the Blue Lagoon, but the last stretch is a rough, rocky track only suitable for 4x4 vehicles or Quads/Buggies. Standard cars are not recommended. Driving allows you to combine the visit with other stops in Akamas National Park, but be prepared for bumpy conditions.
