Dálvvás Sámi Experiences

Step into the heart of Sápmi with Dálvvás Sámi Culture Experience. Based near Luleå, this family-run initiative invites you to connect with Sámi traditions, reindeer husbandry, and the ancestral knowledge of Sweden’s indigenous people. Guided by Marita Sikku, whose family has lived with reindeer for generations, you’ll discover a way of life deeply rooted in nature.

Activities are centred around authentic encounters: feed and interact with reindeer during the winter season, learn Sámi skills such as throwing a suohpan (traditional lasso), and share stories by the fire in a traditional lávvu. Depending on the season, experiences range from reindeer encounters and Sámi food tastings to Northern Lights tours, storytelling evenings, and cultural lectures for groups.

Every visit includes a taste of local delicacies – smoked and dried reindeer meat, gáhkku (Sámi flatbread), cloudberries, lingonberry juice, and coffee or tea – enjoyed around the fire. From December to March, guests can meet the reindeer up close, while in summer, the focus shifts to Sámi traditions, food, and storytelling, as the herd roams freely in the mountains.

Dálvvás also offers lectures, joik (traditional Sámi singing), and storytelling sessions for schools, companies, and events, providing a deeper understanding of Sámi heritage and today’s challenges.
