Learn more about Ice Guardians

Glacier hiking and ice climbing specialist in Vatnajökull National Park, featuring Iceland's only canyoning experiences in small, expert-led groups.

Ice Guardians is a local guiding company founded in 2021 in Southeast Iceland, providing professional mountain experiences between Skaftafell and Höfn. As the only operator of canyoning in Iceland, the structure specialises in technical disciplines including ice climbing, glacier hiking, and alpine travel within the Vatnajökull National Park.

Activities are conducted in small groups to ensure access to quiet terrain and to facilitate educational insights into glaciology, volcanic landscapes, and climate change. All essential technical equipment is provided, such as crampons, ice axes, helmets, harnesses, and wetsuits for aquatic environments. The guiding team holds international certifications in rope rescue, avalanche awareness, and wilderness first response. Safety management includes daily assessments of ice stability and weather conditions to adapt plans to the dynamic Icelandic environment. This proactive approach ensures a secure environment for participants to explore the mountain and river systems of the region.

These guys were top notch. They are the ones who created the experience with the regional forestry service, so a big respect for nature, navigating through the sheep trails to get to canyon and a well thought out course with anchors and challenges along the way. They were both highly qualified at rope at rigging systems, so you never had to worry about your safety. High glass all the way and they were both very friendly and had a ton of information about the area and the land.
