Activity description

Explore the breathtaking Korouoma Canyon and experience the famous frozen waterfalls on a day trip from Rovaniemi. Welcoming participants from ages 8 and up on this hiking adventure!

This full-day excursion begins at the meeting point in Rovaniemi (pickups are available from specified locations upon booking). Rovaniemi is the capital city of Lapland, and a popular destination for outdoor adventurers and nature enthusiasts. The area features beautiful natural wilderness and stunning scenery. Due to its position in the north of Finland close to the Arctic Circle, the region experiences snowy conditions during the winter months. This hiking excursion takes place in Korouoma Canyon, a stunning natural attraction located in Posio, Northern Finland. It is part of the Riisitunturi National Park and is known for its impressive frozen waterfalls during the winter months.

After meeting your guide, you will drive to Korouoma Canyon, located south-east from Rovaniemi. The canyon runs 30-kilometre long, and up to 130-meter deep, and offers breathtaking scenery all year, with cliffs, rapids and waterfalls. When you arrive at the national park, you will prepare for the hike by getting dressed in warm winter clothing before setting off!

You will hike through the natural reserve, taking in the beautiful snowy scenery. As you walk, the knowledgeable guide will share insights about the local area and its history. The reserve is also home to many rare species. You may have the chance to spot the wildlife or their tracks during the tour, including wolves, lynx, wolverines, moose, reindeer, weasels or Arctic hares. Soon you will arrive at the famous frozen waterfalls. During the winter, the waterfalls in the canyon often freeze, creating a magical and otherworldly landscape. The ice formations, combined with the surrounding snow-covered cliffs, create a picturesque winter scene.

Midway through the excursion, you will stop for a break. The guide will teach you how to build a campfire in nature with limited materials, making you feel like a true local! A typical Finnish campfire snack and hot drinks will be served, as you enjoy the peacefulness of the surroundings. Your guide will continue to share their passion and knowledge about life in Lapland and the Arctic nature. At the end of the day, you will return to Rovaniemi with life-long memories!

This educational experience is a great opportunity to discover the beauty of the Korouoma Canyon and frozen waterfalls in Finland. Book your unforgettable adventure from Rovaniemi now!
