Activity Snapshot
Activity description
Join this idyllic hike through the peaceful valley of Pigadia heading towards the mountain village Menetes to discover the beauty of rural Karpathos. Following the goat paths that will lead you past abandoned houses, reminding you of different times on the island. You will stroll through fields with many flowers in the springtime and high grass in the summer. Thanks to the surrounding olive fields you can even "smell" Karpathos and Greece. The olive trees are also offering some shade to take a sip of water. You can listen to the sound of the goat bells guiding you through the valley.
When reaching the chapel below Menetes your group will take a break in the shade and enjoy a fresh cup of locally made herbal tea. After the refreshment, you will enter the chapel to see how the locals pray and learn some interesting historical facts. Leaving the chapel you will head into the sometimes slightly wet river bed. Hundreds of years old olive trees and fossilised shells await you at the end of the walk.
This hike takes about 3-4 hours at a leisurely pace. If you have no experience with walking or hiking, the Pigadia valley walk is the perfect tour to start with.
