Beginner Self-Drive Dog Sledding Safari from Tromsø

Join along an exciting and easy self-drive dog sledding safari in Tromsø, leading your own pack of energetic huskies through the snowy terrains of Northern Norway, surrounded by the whitewashed Arctic mountains!

Dog sledding is one of the oldest methods of transportation in the Arctic, and has a special connection with the locals. Are you ready to take the lead and learn what it takes to be a musher? No previous experience is needed to mush your own husky team, all you need is a reasonable physical health and eagerness to try something new! 

Your adventure begins with a pick-up from the city center in Tromsø where you will meet your guide and hop on a scenic 95-minute bus ride towards the remote wilderness of Tamokhuset. Once you've reached the camp, you will be divided in two groups. The first group will be provided with warm winter clothing and follow a thorough safety instruction and a practical demonstration of mushing techniques. After you've met your new furry friends, it is time to head out in the wild and immerse yourself in the Nordic culture! 

The second group will head towards the dog yard to meet the huskies, and enjoy a delicious warm meal and drink, while learning some fascinating insights about the region and the dogs. You will then gear up with warm winter overalls, and receive all the necessary instructions before heading out on your mushing adventure. Once the first group has returned, you will set out on the dog sledding safari while the first group will relax at the camp with a meal and drinks. Savor the flavors and cherish the moments with your loved ones, while learning about the Nordic culture and the life in the Arctic.

As this is a hands-on experience, two people will share each sled, one riding while the other one can sit back and enjoy the ride (you will switch midway) The trail approximately one hour long depending on the snow conditions of the day. Prepare to ride along some breathtaking sceneries, taking in the cold crisp Arctic air while feeling the thrill of riding the sled with your own pack of Alaskan huskies!
