Hiking Excursion in São Miguel Island, Azores Lagoa do Fogo

Discover the Água de Pau volcano during a hiking tour in São Miguel, you will walk through forests to one of the most beautiful lagoons in Lagoa de Fogo.

The hiking trails in São Miguel will take you through forests, waterfalls, springs, lakes, ridges and many more amazing examples of the island's natural wealth. Half-day and full-day hiking tours are available in different areas of the island. In all cases, you will be picked up and driven to the area of the island where the hiking tour in Sao Miguel will take place.

The trail starts on the south coast of the island of São Miguel, in the parish of Água D'Alto. You will start the trail through grasslands, where you will see different types of vegetation, such as cryptomerias and contreras. As you ascend, you will enjoy panoramic views of the first village of the island of São Miguel, Vila Franca do Campo, known for its islet of Vila Franca do Campo.

At the end of the climb, you can marvel at the endemic vegetation in and around the majestic mountains. You will have lunch by the lagoon while enjoying the crystal clear waters of one of Portugal's nature reserves. You will finish with a steep descent, where you will contemplate the hydrangeas and the views of the south coast of the island.

At the end of the day, there will be the possibility to take a walk in Vila Franca do Campo, where we can also visit the local dessert factory.
