Enjoy the nature of the Azores immersing yourself in a guided tour in the Ribeira Funda area located on the island of São Miguel.
The largest island of the Azores, São Miguel offers beautiful vegetation that preserves trails with biodiverse forests, waterfalls, hot springs and beautiful viewpoints.You can explore all these wonders with the youngest members of the family (minimum 8 years old) with our guided tour of the Ribeira Funda area.This area is located near Maia, offering beautiful views with well-trodden paths. With an expert guide you will hike and you will end at the wonderful Praia da Viola, a small beach bordered by a cliff. The activity lasts 8 hours from the time the instructor picks you up from your accommodation to the time you return to your accommodation.
This excursion in the Ribeira Funda will be guided by an instructor from Fun Activities Azores Adventure, he is going to pick up you in your accommodation (see special terms).
The guide will take you to where you will start this adventure, in the parish of Fenais da Ajuda located in Ribeira Funda. You will have the opportunity to walk through the most characteristic nature of the Azores, enjoying its coastal landscapes.
The path will include photographic and informative panels to learn about the origin and history of the places you will visit. The trail will continue through Praia da Viola, located next to the parish of Lomba da Maia. To end this enriching adventure you will finish at the fishing port of Praia do Calhau D'Areia next to the parish of Maia. When you will finish this hiking tour in Ribeira Funda. You will have the opportunity to visit some of the most touristic places of São Miguel Island such as the viewpoint of Santa Iria, the lighthouse and a walk through the most characteristic places of Ribeira Grande.
You can´t miss this excellent hiking route of Ribeira Funda to enjoy the phenomena of the largest island of the Azores.
- Pick-up in your accommodation by the instructor. The pick up time at the accommodation is from 8:50 to 9:10 am.
- Arrival at Ribeira Funda, distribution of the equipment and briefing of the activity.
- Start of the hike direction Praia da Viola.
- The excursion will continue to Calhau D’Areia Beach fishing port.
- Visit the Santa Iria viewpoint, the lighthouse and tour around Ribeira Grande.
- The instructor will transfer you to your accommodation.
Activity requirements
This activity is not recommended for persons with severe problems with their back, knees or ankles.
Please inform the instructor of any previous injuries, medical conditions or health problems.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Special terms
People who suffers from knee or ankle is recommended wearing an elastic support for better stability.
