Activity description

Discover the Lagoa do Fogo Nature Reserve in São Miguel in the Azores Islands with a guided tour to the Fogo Volcano.

São Miguel is the largest island of the Azores and one of the most touristic. In particular São Miguel is a perfect island for nature lovers and hikers as it is home to some of the most beautiful lagoons of the archipelago such as Lagoa das Empadadas, laurel forests with a great biodiversity, trails, waterfalls and breathtaking viewpoints such as Miradouro do Pico do Ferro.

The guides of Terra Azul Azores Whale Watching offer you a guided tour of the Lagoa do Fogo Nature Reserve in the centre of São Miguel. On this guided tour of about 4 hours the local guides will take you to the crater of the Volcán do Fogo, a 15 000 year old dormant volcano where the Lagoa do Fogo, one of the largest and most beautiful lagoons in São Miguel, is located today. In addition, you will visit the Caldeira Velha where you will have the opportunity to bathe in the hot springs and the Salto do Cabrito waterfall, where you can also take a dip, this time in cold water. The guides will also take you to the historic centre of Ribeira Grande, the Largo de São Pedro fountain and Santa Bárbara beach. In addition, throughout the tour they will explain the volcanic origin, biodiversity and geodiversity of the Azores Islands.
