Activity description
Come hiking in Sete Cidades and discover one of the seven wonders of the Azores Islands!
The island of São Miguel is the best known of the Azores for its amazing volcanic landscape, its marine biodiversity and its natural parks such as Sete or the Ribeira dos Caldeirões Natural Park. This is why the island is called Green Island. In particular, the Sete Cidades Park, one of the island's three stratovolcanoes, is considered one of the seven wonders of the island. The reason? In the crater of this dormant volcano we currently find the Lagoa das Sete Cidades lake, formed by two different coloured lakes: Lagoa Verde and Lagoa Azul.
Sete Cidades is located in the northwest of the island of São Miguel, 20 minutes from Ponta Delgada, the capital of the Azores. So if you want to discover this wonderful natural park, Fun Activities Azores takes you on a guided hiking tour through Sete Cidades and Ferrara. The hike starts in Sete Cidades where you will meet your guide and from there you will head to one of the highest points of Sete Cidades to enjoy one of the best views of the centre of São Miguel. You will then descend through valleys and cryptomeria forests until you reach Lagoa Empadadas and then continue to Grota do Inferno: the most famous viewpoint of the island. On the way back to the starting point of the hike, the route will take you through Lagoa do Canario and the viewpoint of Vista do Rei until you reach the crater of Sete Cidades and the natural pools of Ferraria, where you can swim if the weather and the tide allow it. In short, this is a very complete hike tour around the island, suitable for everyone from 8 years of age onwards and for which no previous experience is necessary, just no knee, back or ankle injuries.
