Pyhä is a village located in northern Finland, situated in the Lapland region. Pyhä-Luosto National Park is a protected natural area, home to several fells, which are distinctive high, flat-topped mountains. Due to its stunning scenery, snowy mountains and diverse landscapes, Pyhä-Luosto has become a playground for winter sports enthusiasts.
The adventure begins at the starting point in Pyhä, where you will meet your experienced guide (pick-up is also available from specific locations upon booking). Your guide will take you through the itinerary for the day, and you will be given your snowshoe equipment. After a quick safety briefing, you will set off on your snowshoe excursion!
To begin, you will take the winter Pendolino (a high-speed tilting train), to the top of Lampivaara Fell, which is a unique attraction located in Pyhä-Luosto National Park. The fell offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including the snowy wilderness of Lapland. Under the instruction of the guide, you will snowshoe through the snowy forest and discover the winter wonderland, hiking to the magnificent Amethyst Mine. The amethysts found in this area are known for their deep purple colour and are considered one of Finland's natural treasures.
When you arrive at the mine, you will have the opportunity to dig for your own gemstone! The amethysts extracted from Lampivaara are used to create distinct jewellery, and are a really special feature of the region. You will also break for some warm berry drinks, while the guide shares stories about the history of the area. After the interesting mine visit, you will snowshoe back to the Pendolino and return to the original starting point.

Course of events

- Hike to the Amethyst Mine (approximately 5km/3miles)
- Mine for your own gemstone
- Enjoy hot drinks
- Return to the original pick-up location
