About the activity

Halfway between Perpignan and Carcassonne, Axat is the starting point for an incredible group water adventure: rafting on the Aude River. From Belvianes-et-Cavirac to the Gorges de Saint-Georges, via the Gorges de la Pierre Lys, the river offers a range of white-water rafting routes in Axat, to suit all levels and tastes:

  • Discovery Course - accessible from the age of 7, this 6 km route down to the Saint-Georges Gorges is ideal for beginners thanks to its easy and fun class 2 to 3 rapids;
  • Sporty Course - a 7 km descent through the Gorges of the Pierre Lys to Belvianes-et-Cavirac, on a section of the river with class 2 to 4 rapids offering more challenges, accessible from age 12;
  • Full Course - the combination of the 2 previous routes for 13 km of rafting on the Aude River, a total of 3 hours spent in white water!

Aboard rafts that can accommodate up to 8 passengers (not including the instructor), you will tackle the river's technical sections and rapids safely, giving you some great thrills. The instructor will be by your side, advising you on the best way to tackle the obstacles and ensuring you have a great time rafting in Axat!

This was a superb activity to kicki off our holiday. The booking was easy, the price not excessive and the whole experience unforgettable. It was easy to find out meeting spot and we were son greeted by a friendly and professional team who had our enjoyment of the river at the center of all they did. We were a family of six so took one boat with our lovely guide Matthew. We were kitted up and after a fully safety check taken through our paces before we headed straight down to the river. What followed was simply excellent. We had periods of calm to enjoy the river, action in which the boat raced through rapids at exhilerating speed. We got the chance to capsize (planned) jump and swim in the river as well canyon down the last rapid. Loved every minute.
