Snowshoeing and Igloo Night at Mont Louis, near Font-Romeu
TransPyr 66 invites you to spend the night in an igloo, after a good snowshoe walk at Mont Louis, near Font-Romeu.
Practical information
Program:
Day 1 :
- 8.15 am: Meeting at the Formiguères ski resort
- 8h45: Distribution of equipment, chairlift ride (compulsory sky pass)
- 9h: Approach walk with snowshoes to the refuge des Camporells 2240m of altitude, place of the bivouac for the igloos.
- 12h: Arrival at the site. Meal from the bag (not included, bring your own picnic).
- 1.30 pm : Making of the igloos and the bivouac, introduction to survival in a snowy environment.
- 19h00 : Hot meal at the Camporells' guarded refuge (Assistance from the welcome chalet to be paid on site: dry toilets + evening meal + breakfast in the guarded refuge +30€/pers. to be paid on site, by cheque or cash).
- 9.30 pm: You can finally snuggle up in the warmth, inside the sleeping bags designed for extreme temperatures (provided), in your personal igloo (1 igloo for 2 to 4 people) fitted out for the occasion.
Ambient temperature in the igloo: from 1 to 3 degrees.
Day 2:
- 8.00 am: Wake up and breakfast in a guarded refuge facing the sunrise!
- 9am: Crossing of the frozen lakes and panoramic return to the vehicles with snowshoes.
- 12h00: End of the activity.

Do you dream of spending a whole night in the middle of the snow-covered mountains? You are not afraid of temperatures that can be as low as -15°C, nor of snowstorms? Then this activity is for you! Come and share this extraordinary adventure! The igloo will be your shelter for the night, protected from the wind and the cold.
Mont Louis is located in the territory of the Catalan Pyrenees Regional Natural Park, at an altitude of 1,600 m, in the heart of the sunny mountains of the Pyrénées-Orientales. The municipality is situated at the crossroads of three territories: the Cerdagne, which opens up to Spain, the Conflent, which descends towards the Mediterranean via the Têt valley, and the Capcir, which joins France via the Aude valley. Mont Louis has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008.
You will be able to snowshoe freely and gently, in a magnificent and sunny setting:
From the ski resort of Formiguères, you go to wild places similar to those of the Great North and very exotic. From the mysterious forests to the frozen lakes of the altiplanos, let your guide take you to the most beautiful places... He will also help you to set up your bivouac and build your igloo. At night, the ambient temperature in the igloo is between 1°C and 3°C. Sleeping bags can be twinned and insulating mattresses are provided during the activity.
Then set off for the Grand Nord adventure, in the heart of the mountains of the Eastern Pyrenees!
