Between late July and mid-November, going to see the magnificent humpback whales in Tahiti is an unmissable experience. Mobydick Diving invites you to join them on a trip to try and spot these incredible cetaceans between Paea and Mataiea, in a quiet area where you can approach them without pressure and with the utmost respect. Accompanied by the guides from this small, friendly company – which has been accredited by the DIREN (Directorate for the Environment) since 2021 – you’ll be in good hands to make the most of the experience. The guides have over 10 years’ experience and are eager to share their passion for cetaceans with you!

During the whale-spotting phase, you can enjoy the comfort of Mobydick Diving’s boat, the “Stenella”. This boat is fitted with an awning to protect you from the sun and rain and is also equipped with a listening system (hydrophone) so you can hear the songs of the male whales – a truly unique experience! Once you’ve spotted the whales, the observation phase begins, allowing you to admire them from the boat and assess whether it’s safe to enter the water: this will depend not only on the whales’ behaviour, but also on sea conditions and your swimming ability.

During your whale-watching excursion in Tahiti, your guide – a marine life specialist – will share lots of interesting facts about the lives of these cetaceans and their songs. Every time you enter the water, the guide will be right by your side to ensure that your snorkelling session with the whales takes place in complete safety. We’ll take a passive approach, allowing the whales to choose whether to approach you – so you might just experience a truly unique moment in their company!

As well as whale-watching, this boat trip in Tahiti will allow you to enjoy the island’s charm from the sea, its scenery, and the other wildlife you might encounter, including dolphins, birds and even turtles.

For this excursion, there are three options available to you:

  • Boat for up to 6 swimmers (+observers): If you’d like to make the most of your trips in a small group.
  • Boat for up to 12 swimmers (plus observers): For those on a tighter budget, this option is available. Rotations will be arranged if more than 6 passengers wish to go in the water, in order to comply with the regulations.
  • Private boat for 1 to a maximum of 12 people: This is the best option for spending time with friends or family, making this outing a special, carefree experience.

Don’t hesitate any longer – book this whale-watching boat trip in Tahiti now and experience a true immersion in the unspoilt nature of Polynesia!

We were so lucky the day we went out to have the opportunity to swim with a very curious junior humpback whale! He stayed with us for about 20-25 minutes and it was incredible. We were also the only boat with the whale at the time. I think it's important to emphasize (1) being comfortable snorkeling fast for quite a distance in open ocean is key to getting to the whales to enjoy your time with them; and (2) the type of contact we had this day is not the norm but, perhaps, the exception. We had an opportunity on two other occasions (with two other outfitters) to swim with whales and both times we ended up in the water but didn't get close to the whales, and we had friends who did a whale swim with yet another outfitter and didn't end up in the water although they saw whales from the boat. Any opportunity to see whales swimming in the open water is a unique opportunity and well worth it.

Just incredible! Exceeded all my expectations. Our group was able to hang out with two juvenile whales for the day. There were no other tour groups around until we were ready to leave. It was such a special day. Our captain and guide were so lovely to us and so respectful of the whales and the environment. We felt so comfortable and taken care of. Thank you so much!

This is a great whale tour, it's on a quieter part of the coast so there's less boats around, we had it to ourselves, and managed to have a lovely swim with a mother and calf. highly recommended.

We found a whale and could get into water. However, since the number of people that can be in the water simultaneously is limited, the time that each of us spent snorkeling in the water was actually quite short, maybe 20 minutes together. Out of that, you see the whale clearly for maybe 20 seconds, the rest of the time it is just a distant shadow.
