If you're a certified diver with experience in a drysuit, this scuba diving experience in the Silfra fault in Iceland will offer you an extraordinary freshwater dive unlike anywhere else on Earth. If you're certified but don't have previous experience in a dry suit, then the PADI Dry Suit Diver Course with Scuba Diving in Silfra will be a better option for you!
Located in the heart of Þingvellir National Park, Silfra is a geological wonder. Formed by the slow separation of the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates, it is a must for any experienced diver visiting Iceland. With visibility that can reach up to 120 metres and underwater rock formations shaped by centuries of volcanic and tectonic activity, Silfra provides ideal conditions for exploration diving in one of the clearest bodies of water in the world.
The day begins with a pick-up in Reykjavík and one-hour transfer that includes commentary from your guide about the geology and cultural history of Þingvellir. Once you arrive at the Silfra dive site, you will receive a briefing: your certified scuba dive guide will walk you through the route, review safety procedures, and assist with your gear setup. The equipment provided is high-quality, including BARE and Aqualung suits, along with APEX or Aqualung regulators. Only groups of three divers per guide are allowed to ensure your safety and provide personal attention throughout the dive.
Once you’re fully equipped, a short walk leads you to the water’s edge. Over the course of 30 to 40 minutes, you’ll dive through Silfra’s four main sections, reaching depths of up to 18 metres. The experience begins in Big Crack, the narrowest part of the rift, where you can have your iconic “Dive Between the Continents” photo taken. You’ll then drift into Silfra Hall, often accompanied by the sight of birds overhead as they paddle across the surface. Then, as the fissure deepens, you’ll enter Silfra Cathedral, the most dramatic point of your dive in Silfra, where sunlight and bubbles create surreal underwater reflections. The journey ends in the serene, wide waters of Silfra Lagoon, where the clarity seems endless.
After exiting the water, you’ll carry your equipment back along a 250-meter path and wrap up your experience with hot chocolate and cookies while chatting with your guide. If needed, your guide will help with the gear on the return walk. After the dive and debrief, you’ll be transported back to the capital.
Please note that scuba divers must have a drysuit certification or proof of at least 10 logged drysuit dives within the past two years, signed by an instructor. This is essential for participating in the Silfra Diving Tour!
If you are a certified diver, don't miss the chance to dive into the Silfra Fault for a unique experience! And if you are not a certified diver don't hesitate to opt for snorkelling in the Silfra fault, an activity that is just as extraordinary!
